Jim McCarthy

Founder and Chairman

James "Jim" McCarthy is the founder and chairman of McCarthy Hatch, a diverse-owned (DOBE®) management consulting firm advising financial institutions on risk management and regulatory compliance strategy and implementation. Jim is a seasoned professional with over 30 years of comprehensive financial services experience focused on risk management and regulatory compliance. His distinguished career, highlighted by his appointment to serve as a founding member of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and strategic leadership roles in the private sector and management consulting, positions him uniquely as a visionary in consumer finance regulation and ERM.

Jim’s deep expertise is built upon critical roles that have directly influenced the landscape of consumer finance. As a CFPB founding member, Jim was instrumental in developing the bureau’s innovative complaint system and leading the onboarding of 5,000 consumer finance companies onto the CFPB complaints portal, contributing to consumer relief efforts of ~$19 billion and shaping the regulatory framework governing consumer finance today. Earlier in his career, during the ’07-‘08 financial crisis, Jim joined the FDIC and supported the closing of 300+ banks, securing the orderly transfer of ~$1 trillion in deposits (to a buyer/FDIC).
